The Verve

If you read Max's blog, he often pays tribute to bands he loves by showcasing a series of their videos streamed by YouTube. Well, I thought I'd chip in as well.

The Verve - Slide Away

This is off the debut LP A Storm In Heaven. I love this song. The video captures the band in their early days with their hippie look. They probably thought they were Pink Floyd or something. Check out the video. Bassist Simon Jones's probably still the coolest one among all of them. What happened to him after the breaking up of The Shining? Anyhow, guitarist Nick McCabe still rocks though...

The Verve - Star Sail (live)

This is off their debut LP as well.

The Verve - On Your Own

Off their 2nd full-length A Northern Soul. I love this track cause I can play it. Heh.

The Verve - This Is Music

Still off the 2nd LP.

The Verve - The Drugs Don't Work (live)

By the time, the 3rd album Urban Hymns was out, they've totally lost their previous ambient/ shoegazer edge and became very much roots-rock like many of their peers Catherine Wheel and Ride. But what Dick Ashcroft had stronger than his contemporaries was his songwriting skills and he HAD them in spades. This album marked the last of his good work. His first solo album was decent. The following 2 were pretty bad...

The Verve - A Man Called Sun (live)

This is super old skool as the tune is from their debut self-titled EP. Love the groove.
